Eddie Lee Long (born May 12, 1953) is a controversial preacher and the senior pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, a mega-church in unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia, United States, near Lithonia. When Long started as pastor for New Birth Church in 1987, there were 300 church members. Since his installation, membership has reportedly grown to 25,000.
During this time, Long has become the focus of Senate investigations concerning whether he has personally profited from his church’s tax exempt status and lawsuits alleging homosexual misconduct with underage male members of his parish. Long has denied wrong doing through his attorneys and has settled the lawsuits out of court.
Long is being sued by former parishioners who accuse him of persuading them to invest in a Ponzi scheme that wiped out at least $1 million in their retirement savings.
And last spring, Bishop Long settled a lawsuit filed by four young men who accused him of pressuring them into sexual relationships while they were teenagers and members of Long’s congregation at the same north Georgia church.
I have always had a hard time figuring out why all of the alleged “not guilty” individuals settle out of court if they didn’t do the deed? Foolish question.
I may agree that in certain situations in order to expedite a trial or to ensure a pre-determined sentence that is the best way to go.
On the other side of the coin; any reasonably intelligent person will deduce that the majority of these “not guilty” folks are as guilty as sin just like Preacher “the con-man” Eddie.
You have to give these high-flying, fabricating, scheming, purveyors’ of prayer credit for one thing, they have giant “mountain oysters”. They stand on their perch weekly screaming and lying through their teeth telling their parishioners to keep putting those green backs in the collection basket so they can buy themselves new Rolls Royce and some more diamonds.
The bigger the flow of tears, the more the cash flows.
They say it with pride. “God would not want one of his disciples dressed like an ordinary man driving an old car”.
The next part of the act is; to have some deaf and dumb or incapacitated people ushered or carried up to the preaching medicine man with their incurable illness that they have suffered with for 50 years.
The “swami” put his hand on their forehead. After saving a few mumbo jumbo words and they knock the person on their ass while two goons on the side try and prevent them from cracking their head on the floor. When they are revived their incurable illness mysteriously has disappeared. After the performance the infirmed go behind the curtain and pick up their envelope from one of the preachers loyal staff.
Getting back to the real extremist “Revs Eddie”, with his $ 2,000.00 tailor made silk suits, his slick backed hair and those shiny diamonds rings and bracelets standing on the altar every week begging for money to keep his pretty buns in style.
According to the records this sweet talking preacher had a Ponzi scheme going on the side. He wasn’t stealing enough weekly from his flock to keep that giant ego pumped up.
Now Ponzi Eddie Boy is a little different from most of the black preachers. From all indications Eddie is a switch hitter and likes to go both ways. That should be his own business but when it comes to partaking in underage kids, the buck has to stop there.
Tell me, what is worse than a pedophile?? Only one thing, a pedophile of the cloth. They are definitely the most insignificant pieces of trash ever born.
Is it unconscionable that Eddie as well as some of his Christian counterparts are getting off without serving any time? Why do these men of “the black cloth” get special treatment? There should be a more severe penalty imposed for them then the run of the mill predators. It seems like they are becoming more and more previlent these days.
I will guarantee one thing. If Eddie was on the perch tomorrow morning running his mouth there would still be droves of his gullible followers that keep shoving money into the coffers.
Unfortunately, the people who are keeping these dudes living the life of a pharaoh are probably some of the poorest people in the country giving them their last dime.
I say “Amen and Hallelujah brothers and sisters”!
