Energy Department cuts payments to 4 federal lab workers:
Four high-ranking federal lab workers found a way to turn “per diem” funds for a temporary assignment into a steady flow of extra income at taxpayers’ expense. The over payments, discovered in an inspector general’s audit, boosted the annual pay of some of the employees by as much as $64,000.
The Department of Energy paid the four scientists roughly $1.8 million for daily lodging and “inconvenience” during assignments away from home. But these scientists were paid as if they were on temporary duty for up to 14 years — long after most had permanently relocated to job sites.
This type of back door activity is referred to in the real world as “double dipping or screwing the tax payer” AGAIN.
These four high ranking officials that got caught with their hands in the cookie jar are not four janitors /urinal colonels in some office building. This is not always the case but it should be: a high ranking person “ought to” be a lot more intelligent than the normal swab jockey; at least you would think so. So we can surmise that these public thieves knew exactly what they were doing because their charade lasted 14 years.
Let us not dismiss the person or people that were approving their time cards. Maybe they were getting their palms greased as well.
I realize that our government is a HUGE organization and it takes a lot of vigilance to keep it running smoothly and under control. That is why there are so many people employed there to insure that the job is being done correctly. They got a big “F” on that one too.
How many federal workers are there?
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/federal-eye/2010/09/how_many_federal_workers_are_t.html
Federal Government Employment Levels Through the Years (including the U.S. Postal Service)
Executive Branch civilians Total U.S. population Executive Branch employees per 1,000 population
2010 / 2.65 million employees – 310.3 million population – 8.4 workers per 1000
By looking at this figures, for every thousand people in the country there are 8.4 Federal employees. That is a big number.
I would conclude that there should be enough watch dogs on the payroll to keep the house in order but it doesn’t appear to be the case.
One of the major problems with some government employees have is that there is an air of complacency in their work place that can be cut with a knife.
They walk around their offices like they are half asleep. Pay attention the next time you go into a government office for assistance. It is a real imposition on some of the workers part to help you out in a professional manner. She will eventually help you but only after she got the bubble gum out of her hair. This lackadaisical attitude only persists because it is nearly impossible to get rid of a dead-beat government worker and they know it.
There is no doubt in my mind; if a private company was doing the exact same jobs as the governments people are supposed to be doing, they could cut at least 1/3 of the work force and never know they were gone.
That is why so many cities and states have privatized a lot of their work; the governments personal, for the most part, are very non-productive. The slower they go, the longer it takes to do their jobs and the long the job lasts. It is called “intercoursing the canine by proxy”.
I would like to stress that I am positive there are many excellent government employees but you guys have to get your co-workers in line. They are giving you a bad name.
When I was in the Marine Corps and we had one of the platoon members F-ing-up, everyone in the platoon kicked the shit out of the 8 ball and there was never a repeat offender. Maybe a little harsh but it works. Only in the stomach not the face.

Several years back when LA had a gigantic earth quake the city officials decide to go outside the box and hire a contractor to do the bridge repair by not going through the normal red-tape, bidding processes and construction restrictions. In doing so, the contractor that was awarded the job finished in 25 days which normally would have taken 2 – 3 times longer, saving the city millions of dollars.
When the city officials were interviewed prior to the re-construction, they said it could not be done.
It is a stone cold fact that anything the government gets their hands on or is involved with turns into a massive expense and is drug out for twice as long than it should take.
Back to the double dippers, they are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to incompetence, mismanagement and larceny in the work place. There has to be thousands of more situations like this but I guess they don’t have enough government employees to watch one another.
I am going to recommend that Uncle Sam to organize a 5000 man panel to look into these ongoing problems. I can get a suite of rooms in Vegas for the unbelievable nightly fee of only $6,000 per night per room. Naturally; that includes two soft boiled eggs with room service to help get rid of the hangovers. We can not forget to reimburse the panel with their per diem checks.
By the way; if any hookers from Columbia read this and are interested in attending the conference we can set you up in a nice room. One concession that has to be made on your END; you will have to cut your rates slightly; the boys can get a VERY good Vegas hooker for 400 a night; half of what you tried to “stiff” the CIA with.
Who is watching Sam and his crew??

I like what you say, very true.
