Philadelphia priest: Not archdiocese’s policy to tell police about abuse reports:
Philadelphia (CNN) — A priest who assisted Monsignor William Lynn investigate clergy sex abuse claims testified Tuesday that it was not the archdiocese’s policy to contact law enforcement or other victims of abuse.
Rev. James Brennan, who is accused of the attempted rape of a 14-year-old, and Monsignor William Lynn, who is accused of knowingly allowing dangerous priests to continue in the ministry in roles in which they had access to children.
These types of actions or the lack of are indicative of the arrogance of the Catholic Church. I guess because these sick, perverted men that have the gall to be called “Reverend” go to confession and tell their sins to the guy that is going to cover them up; they feel that the story should be over.
It is not over; they are left to wander the playgrounds and hallways of the schools looking for naive little boys, in rare cases girls, who were taught that a priest was as close to god as a human can get.
The pedophile priests are the scum of the earth but the people that put their actions in the closet are worse than they are. A pedophile for all intents and purposes has a mental problem but the enablers are supposed to be normal functioning, intelligent adults that should know better than to suppress this type of activity.
The priest hood has become a safe haven for many twisted men. It is like going to a Vegas buffet for them.

Sexual abuse of minors by priests receives significant media attention in Canada, Ireland, the United States, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Belgium, France, and Germany, while cases have been reported throughout the world.
In a statement read out by Archbishop Silvano Maria Tomasi in September 2009, the Holy See stated “We know now that in the last 50 years somewhere between 1.5% and 5% of the Catholic clergy has been involved in sexual abuse cases”, adding that this figure was comparable with that of other groups and denominations.[11] A Perspective on Clergy Sexual Abuse by Dr. Thomas Plante of Stanford University and Santa Clara University states that “approximately 4% of priests during the past half century (and mostly in the 1960s and 1970s) have had a sexual experience with a minor” which “is consistent with male clergy from other religious traditions and is significantly lower than the general adult male population which may double these numbers”.[4][12] additionally, according to Newsweek magazine, the figure in the Catholic Church is similar to that in the rest of the adult population.[13]
If they are admitting to 5% I would say it is at least double that.
One of the first things we are taught as children is “Thou shall not tell a lie”. Have these guys abused that sin or not?
The absolute worst case of abuse that I read was the priest that abused over 200 deaf kids and the pope refused to defrock him. You talk about the “good old boys club”; these guys should get the academy award for their act. Who is worse, the pedophile or the pope?
The punishment for abusing over 20 kids was; the perverted priest was to put out to pasture in Ireland with full pay for the rest of his life. I am surprised the pope didn’t include a membership to the YMCA for his buddy.
Where is it written that because some degenerate guy puts a collar around his neck, gets free meals, a free place to live, house maids, cooks, free transportation, spending money and much more is above the law. Their penalty should be double of what the “average” sicko gets because of their position in life.
Not only do I think that the perpetrator should do a long stretch in the slams but the people that covered his sick escapades up should be in the cell next to him.
I am sure that for every twisted priest out there, there are 50 times more good priests. If the Catholic Church ever wants to regain their creditability they better start coming clean, quit covering up for these parasites, turn all of the would-be priest over to the authorities and protecting the kids that are that are taught to believe in god.
I think that the pope is a disgrace for taking the negative positions he has taken in the past.
Has anyone seen a skinny priest driving an old car these days??
AMEN
well said UM, completely and utterly unbelievable that people especially trusted “safe” people do these things
