Black Friday?

Talk about the retail store industry influencing and using a play on words to bring in the half-crazed  shoppers to part with their hard earned money on “Black Friday”.

Black Friday is a day that some promotional expert thought of a few years back to get the over zealous shoppers in the stores before Christmas. I think it would have been more appropriate if they  would have named it “beat up your neighbor Friday”!

Just like so many other words that have been taken out of or used out of context, the word “Christmas” has no resemblance at all for what its original meaning was intended. The celebration of Christmas “was” supposed to be a Christian holiday when all Christians around the world celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ. Whether you are religious or not, that was the intent.

What the holiday has evolved into is a highly commercial time of the year when some nutty people camp out in front of a store for a week before Black Friday, when the doors open they beat the hell out of one another trying to be the first one in, women pulling each others hair out, some people even get shot or stabbed in the maylay.  They just can’t wait to max out their credit cards buying stuff they do not need just because they think it is on sale; buying things most of them can’t afford and suffer financially for the rest of the year.

It has always amazed me the way the gullible people in this world are manipulated by hype and advertising. With enough advertising and hype people can be convinced that Heidi Fleiss is a virgin or that Jeffery Dahmer was a vegetarian.

Talk about manipulating the masses. Some big named stores have their Black Friday start on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day night at 2200 hrs. and ends on Sunday at 2400 hrs. Why don’t they just call it Black Weekend?

Back when the public had a few more scruples and the media and big business didn’t captivate or control our ever thought, holidays were celebrated in a more dignified and meaningful manner. People used to visit the family and friends on holidays, bring them a stick of Genoa salami, have a drink, something to eat, kids were given one or two toys for the occasion and people in general appreciated each-other and what they had a lot more than they do today.

Now in what we call  “modern times” kids are given so many gifts that the parents need to hire a U-Haul to get the stuff home. When the kiddies open the box, throw the gift into the corner and play with the box.

If this is what is called progress in evolution I would rather go back in time before the Caveman chiseled a square rock into a wheel and made it round.

I think I am going to initiate a “one day” holiday that will last 7 months to help take out the trash in this country. It is going to be called “Clean-up Criminals Chaos Day”. It will start on December 26th and last until July 3rd. All the criminals in the country will be invited to the bash and encouraged to bring all the weapons they can carry. When all of the dust settles and the smoke clears on July 4th “Independence Day” our country will be crime free.

No that is wishful thinking.
