Once Ubiquitous on Campus, ‘Paterno’ Is Heard No Longer:
Every week now there are fewer flowers on the berm where Joe Paterno’s statue once stood outside the football stadium at Penn State. When the statue came down in July, 12 days after a scathing report accused Paterno and top administrators of covering up the early signs of Jerry Sandusky’s crimes, flowers marking the site grew into a mound several feet high.
It is a shame that an Iconic Man like Joe Paterno who was such a positive role model for so many made one grave mistake will have it hanging over his head for eternity.
There is an old saying that goes “a person can do a thousand things right and no one notices but do one thing wrong and no one forgets”!
Let’s hope that that isn’t the case with Pa Pa Joe. He was a good man, a good Catholic, set a very stellar example for all of the people around him and helped a multitude of people in his life.
He either turned a blind eye because of very bad judgment or made a gigantic mistake. I think it may have been a little of both. I have no doubt that he tried to protect his ever loving Penn State and not that scum bag Sandusky.
If we all had a crystal ball and could look into our future, we may want to cover our eyes!
Realistically Joe should be remembered for his great accomplishments in life, how he helped develop hundreds of boys into men and somehow be forgiven for his one mistake.
He was a very good Italian man.
