Arab-American groups say Coke Super Bowl ad is racist:
What does John Stossel say “give me a break”!
A bunch of Arab-American have sharply criticized a Coca-Cola Super Bowl ad depicting an Arab walking through the desert with a camel, and one group said it would ask the beverage giant to change it before CBS airs the game on Sunday before an expected audience of more than 100 million U.S. viewers.
“Why is it that Arabs are always shown as either oil-rich sheiks, terrorists, or belly dancers?” said Warren David, president of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, or ADC.
For the same reason Italian men are always associated with the Mafia, Jewish people as very clannish and tight with a buck, oriental people with Chinese restaurants, Mexican people with Taco Bell, Black People with rap music and the list goes on. It is called type-casting. Something that has been around forever and is not going to go away anytime soon.
I really don’t think that Coke had any ill intentions of insulting the Arab-American community with their ad. If Coke does change the ad before the Super Bowl they will be opening a can of worms in many different ares for more than just every commercial in the future. It is called capitulating. Some may even refer it it as “kissing their ass”!
It is very interesting that we do not hear too much about the Arab-American community displaying their disapproval regard all of the anti-American activities associated with some of the rebels in their nationality?? They should put forth as much effort to assist in getting their renegade factions under control instead of worry about a soda commercial.
Bottoms up.
