Panetta sounds dire warning on defense cuts during Libya hearing:
At the end closing of his departing statement, Panetta directly appealed to lawmakers to “do whatever you can” to avoid another threat to the nation’s security. Don’t cut the military budget.
Why put someone in the position of authority if you do not pay attention to what they recommend?
The out-going secretary of defense almost sounded like he was pleading when he made his departure speech “not to cut defense spending”.
It appears to me that the leaders of this country are as ignorant as they are arrogant and will not heed the words of ones that know. Needless to say Panetta is an expert in his field.
As I said in my blog the other day “one of the major factors that the USA doesn’t resemble Afghanistan is because of our military might”. Cutting defense spending will be a disaster for our country.
As we are scaling down our military our “friends” in the Far East are scaling up. Don’t think it is not for a good reason!!!
Taking into consideration that vast amounts of money we owe China and the fact that they are boosting their military’s strength; what will prevent them from crossing the pond someday to collect their debt? Never say never!
Let us not forget the rest of the enemies of the USA around the world that would love to sick a wooden stake in our heart. They are chomping at the bit for a chance to get on American soil and fly their flag over that big white building in DC.
There has to be thousands of way to trim the budget instead of cutting military spending.
One giant step forward would be for the USA to get out of all the countries around the world that we do not belong in. Close all the embassies and get all Americas back on their home turf. If some stubborn people and chooses to stay in these countries, like the old say goes “travel at you own risk” and don’t bail them out. “Don’t go where you don’t belong”
How about cutting the space program that has cost the country hundreds of billions over the years and all we have to show for it is a few moon rocks.
People, people; we can save money by watching the pennies and the dollars will follow. The DC dummies are always focusing on the billions and forgetting about the 100’s and the 1,000’s.
To this day, there still has not been a “big move” as promised by Obama in the election to create jobs. People work, people spend money, people pay taxes. The government is waiting for the private sector to create jobs. Well give them incentives to do so. You don’t put handcuffs on someone then throw them in the ocean and expect them to swim.
Take a page out of the book of Franklin D. Roosevelt; it was called WPA (Works Progress Administration).
In April 1935 Roosevelt kicked off WPA and put hundreds of thousands of America workers to work that helped America get through the depression. Why can’t our present day leaders come up with a similar program? They are too lazy. As long as their bread basket is full, that is all that matters to them. They are too egotistical to admit they don’t know how to do it.
All a person has to do is drive around their community, while attempting to miss the craters in the road and look at the infrastructure; then tell me there are not programs that can be implemented to repair these problems. Our country is literally falling apart.
What you see is only on the surface. The underground utilities are the real backbone of any country. Water, gas, sewer, electric, telephone lines are so deteriorated and decayed that it is disaster waiting to happen.
I read some time ago; if a major water main ever broke in NY City it would be almost impossible to repair because the shut offs for the mains are so old and decayed it to shut it down. HELLO!!
I look at some of the bridges I drive over occasionally and hope I make it to the other side. We only wait until there is a catastrophe before any of the leaders makes a move.
Get the ALL able-bodied freeloaders off of welfare and make them earn their money. The word work is not in the ultra-conservatives vocabulary. All they want to know is “what can I get for free”?
One of these days the bottom is going to drop out of everything and the USA will be as the old saying goes, ”be up shits creek without a paddle”. It is not far off.
I noticed through the years the companies that severely neglected all of their equipment and infrastructure, it wasn’t too long after they went belly up.
Is it too much to ask for some of the brain surgeons in DC to put their heads together and come up with a similar plan as Roosevelt or is this too much work and too hard for these over-paid paper weights?
It is a sacrilege that the poor excuse for an election took place months ago and we are in bad a shape after it as we were before.
The election was a popularity contest; it was not based on past performance or achievements.
The boys and girls in DC better listen to the outgoing Italian guy and heed his words. Cutting the military budget is suicide for the USA.
