“State of the Trayvon Martin address”

Excerpts and comments from Obama’s “State of the Trayon Martin ” address.

OBAMA: You know, when Trayvon Martin was first shot, I said that this could have been my son. Another way of saying that is Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago.

COMMENT: A very inappropriate comment from a person that is supposed take a neutral position as president of the USA. He is entitled to his own personal opinion but has a obligation while he holds that office to be unbiased.

I felt that the comment when it was made would incite some very bad behavior from demonstrators, especially coming from a black president as it did.  It could have been any other kid from any race as well.

OBAMA : And when you think about why, in the African-American community at least, there’s a lot of pain around what happened here, I think it’s important to recognize that the African-American community is looking at this issue through a set of experiences and a history that — that doesn’t go away.

Comment: I don’t think that there is a person in this country that is not aware of the plight of the black man going back centuries. In recent years there has been a concerted effort by the majority of Americans to make amends for what some heartless, out of control slave traders did hundreds of years ago.

It was not just the white man that enslaved the blacks; the black people had just as much involvement in the selling of their people to the white-man as the white-man did in the buying of slaves. As a result, in most circles,  the black people were treated like an expendable item. It took many years and much suffering of the black people to get to the respect they deserve; hopefully it will keep  getting better.

One small issue has to be kept in mind. If a person wants respect they have to give it, no matter what race of nationality they are.

What happened yesterday was yesterday and what happens tomorrow is tomorrow. If the black community as well as the white community wants to make and keep peace with each-other they have to start taking responsibility for the kids that they bring in this world. The kids are the future and as it stands now it is not a bright one. What we are seeing today are some very poor examples of parents that pop the kids out and virtually abandon them.

The answer to the problem is; “it all begins at home”. If there is no structure, no role models and discipline in the family, there will never be any resolution to any of these problems.

These kids did not ask to be born into a world to bunch of irresponsible people. All kids in this world should have a functional family life that includes a mother and a father that are responsible citizens and raise their kids in a conscientious manner.

Discipline should begin at home not when the kids go to school. The kids are supposed to be getting an education in school and the teachers should not have to put up with a bunch of out of control, sometime savage kids.

The key to advancing ones self in life can be defined very easily in a few words; “education, discipline and by good examples”.

Every kid in this country should know who their mother and father is and not have to come home to some wacked out broad that has a different guy in the house every night and a father, if he knows who he is,  who is a responsible person with a job not some drunk dope head that is setting a horrible example for his kids.

Where do these kids get their bad habits from? Starting with their parents, media, the out of control celebs and then who they associate with in life. They have very few if any role models to emulate. Bend the tree when it is young.

Here is a great example. One guy with 20 kids from 5 different women. This is not as uncommon as you may think, both in the black and white communities.

dude  This guy struts around with this so called badge of honor. Who do you think is paying for the kids that bums like this produce. The taxpayers.

OBAMA: And when you think about why, in the African-American community at least, there’s a lot of pain around what happened here, I think it’s important to recognize that the African-American community is looking at this issue through a set of experiences and a history that — that doesn’t go away.

COMMENT: Again; what happened yesterday we cannot change but we can change tomorrow if we want to.

OBAMA: There are very few African-American men in this country who haven’t had the experience of being followed when they were shopping in a department store. That includes me.

And there are very few African-American men who haven’t had the experience of walking across the street and hearing the locks click on the doors of cars. That happens to me, at least before I was a senator.

COMMENT: I don’t care what race someone is. If I see one of these rebel rousers coming toward me with a hood over their head and their pants around their ankles, I am going to keep my hand on my wallet.

Here again we go back to our parents. If I ever tried to walk out of my house looking like one of these bums when I was a kid  my old man would have tied me up in the basement after he kicked my ass.

OBAMA: Trayvon Martin ‘Could Have Been Me’

COMMENT: If Obama dressed like some of these kids do today when he was younger he should have been suspect. Why not?

OBAMA: There are very few African-Americans who haven’t had the experience of getting on an elevator and a woman clutching her purse nervously and holding her breath until she had a chance to get off. That happens often.

COMMENT: Same comment as before. I don’t care what race someone is. If I see ones of these rebel rousers coming toward me with a hood over there head, their pants around their ankles, I am going to keep my hand on my wallet.

OBAMA: And, you know, I don’t want to exaggerate this, but those sets of experiences inform how the African-American community interprets what happened one night in Florida. And it’s inescapable for people to bring those experiences to bear.

COMMENT: If a person does not give someone a reason to suspect them, chances are that they would not be tagged as dangerous or a threat. I do understand that there are some very radical people out there that no matter how a person presents themselves they will receive an adverse reaction. We cannot control the entire population but if we could control 95% by the way we act and present our-self that would be a great achievement.

OBAMA: The African-American community is also knowledgeable that there is a history of racial disparities in the application of our criminal laws, everything from the death penalty to enforcement of our drug laws. And that ends up having an impact in terms of how people interpret the case.

COMMENT: There is no doubt that there have been some cases where the black people were racially profiled and it is going to take years to overcome this. Respect is something that has to be earned not a given.

It is just like the Italians, Polish, Irish and many other nationalities that come across the pond in the early 1900’s that were treated worse than dogs. It took many years of hard work, education and dedication to their country to overcome this stigma. It does not happen overnight.

OBAMA: Now, this isn’t to say that the African-American community is naive about the fact that African-American young men are disproportionately involved in the criminal justice system, that they are disproportionately both victims and perpetrators of violence.

It’s not to make excuses for that fact, although black folks do interpret the reasons for that in a historical context.

COMMENT: Statistics show that 33 % of black men go to prison sometime in their life. I can guarantee that if they had supervision, discipline and a role model at home when  they were growing up that number could be cut by 80 %.

Again, yesterday was yesterday and tomorrow is tomorrow. I have known a few people in my life that continually re-live the past and bring out the crying towel every chance they get as to how tough the were brought up. Quit crying kids, nobody cares. We cannot change yesterday but we can change tomorrow.

OBAMA: And the fact that a lot of African-American boys are painted with a broad brush and the excuse is given, well, there are these statistics out there that show that African-American boys are more violent — using that as an excuse to then see sons treated differently causes pain.

COMMENT: Two of my favorite clichés; “when a person lives with a cripple they usually limp” – “when a person sleeps with a dog they will certainly will catch flees”. Figure it out.

OBAMA: Now, the question for me at least, and I think, for a lot of folks is, where do we take this? How do we learn some lessons from this and move in a positive direction?

Along the same lines, I think it would be useful for us to examine some state and local laws to see if it — if they are designed in such a way that they may encourage the kinds of altercations and confrontations and tragedies that we saw in the Florida case, rather than diffuse potential altercations.

COMMENT: I am shocked that this man never once mentioned education in his speech; the key to every-ones success. If ANY person has a good education no matter what race or nationality, they have they the keys to the world.

OBAMA: And for those who resist that idea that we should think about something like these stand your ground laws, I just ask people to consider if Trayvon Martin was of age and armed, could he have stood his ground on that sidewalk?
And do we actually think that he would have been justified in shooting Mr. Zimmerman, who had followed him in a car, because he felt threatened?
And if the answer to that question is at least ambiguous, it seems to me that we might want to examine those kinds of laws.

COMMENT: I agree in part that the laws have to be kept in check or modified but more important than changing the laws is controlling the people that are permitted to carry the weapons. The weapons are not the problem; the people that carry them irresponsibly are.

There still remains a lot of  conversation that everyone in this country should give up their firearms. Let me give a small incite on self-defense. If all of the good guys gave up their weapons and the bad guys didn’t, within a week the good guys would be wiped off the face of the earth. The good guys having weapons to defend themselves is the only reason we have not been annihilated already.

It is like a Mexican standoff; the only thing that keeps the opposite side from wiping out the other guys is fear.

OBAMA: We need to spend some time in thinking about how do we bolster and reinforce our African-American boys? And this is something that Michelle and I talk a lot about. There are a lot of kids out there who need help who are getting a lot of negative reinforcement. And is there more that we can do to give them the sense that their country cares about them and values them and is willing to invest in them?

COMMENT: Obama is only speaking about reenforcing African-Americans. There are many kids from different races and nationalities that need help as well. Education, education, and education.

ed

OBAMA: I don’t want us to lose sight that things are getting better. Each successive generation seems to be making progress in changing attitudes when it comes to race. It doesn’t mean that we’re in a post-racial society. It doesn’t mean that racism is eliminated.

But, you know, when I talk to Malia and Sasha and I listen to their friends and I see them interact, they’re better than we are. They’re better than we were on these issues. And that’s true in every community that I have visited all across the country.

FINAL COMMENT: I like to view everything as objectively as I can and give my unbiased opinion.

I really doubt if there is going to be much of a change in this country for many years to come. This lack of a proper family environment  has gone too far to ever salvage.

We have too many agitators out there that keep pissing off these different groups so they keep donating to their causes.  Bill Cosby tried to point the black kids in the right direction  on several occasions and all he got was a load of grief for his efforts.

The only answer to this dilemma in the USA is through EDUCATION and RESPECT for your fellow man!! You don’t have to like me and I don’t have to like you. You respect me and I will respect you!!

Go pick up a book instead of a pistol.
