The punishment does not fit the crime.

Baseball’s Miguel Tejada suspended 105 games for amphetamine use:

Initially when I read the headlines I thought we had another “screwball” added to the long list of dummies that thinks they are going to beat the system; only in his case there are extenuating circumstances that justify the use of the drug.

Tejada did have permission from the league to use Adderall, which he took for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD.  This drug is not intended to get the user an edge. That permission expired April 15 and the infielder neglected to inform the league that need to continue to take the drug. In other words he forgot to renew his prescription with major league baseball. Not a big of a deal as they are making it.

Given those circumstances I think that his punishment was too severe and should be cut by at least ¾.

Using 162 games a year as a barometer, Miguel makes $8,641.00 per game, he has been suspended for 105 games. It is going to cost him 105 x 8641.00= $907,407.00. To me that is a pretty stiff penalty for an inadvertent error or dropping the ball  on his part. The punishment does not fit the crime.

I hope he isn’t the run of the mill athlete that squander every penny he makes. I understand that the lines for the soup kitchens have been very long lately.

Not to mention he has to keep his wife Alejandra living in the style that she has been accustom to.  That in itself may be the the line drive he will not be-able to catch. .
