Shooting reignites gun talk, but bills still cold:
The Navy Yard shooting is just another in the long line of tragic events in American history.
Situation like this are almost impossible to deal with or prevent; that fact can be annunciation as seen by this incident at the Navy Yard where security “should have been” very tight.
To begin with; how did this wack job Arron Alexis ever get approved as a contractor with the United States government with his history of violence and mental unbalance? His unsavory track record goes all the way back to when he served in the military and probably before.
I can understand someone sneaking under or over a fence to commit a crime but in this killer situation he was hiding in broad day-lite. Realistically, conditions like this is why record and ID checks of backgrounds should be executed properly.
More than one person dropped the ball in this game; beginning with the background checkers and then the security that did not check his tool box he was carrying with the broke down rifle in it. He had to go through security at some point in order to get into the mens’ rooms to assemble the rifle.
Unfortunately, security has become a very important of our way of life but the people that work it such as the TSA get complacent in their duties. It almost looks like they are mesmerized at times and just going through the motions, especially with someone they deal with on a steady basis. Security has to consider each and every person that goes through their post as a threat.
Safety nets that the government has set up to circumvent these types of situations are not working. There could be a security guard at every door and window in a building and some nut case will find a way to get in just like in this incident.
Our country is so big, overwhelming and over-powering that it is almost impossible to prevent these types of situations from happening. Unfortunately the citizens of the USA are going to be seeing more and more of these calamities happening as they are now and there isn’t anything that can be done about it; we can peg it “an unnecessary evil”.
The politicians can try to pass all the guns laws they want, hire 1000’s of gun czars to oversee the operations but it never will change. The only thing they will ever accomplish by disarming America and I don’t they ever can, is to give the criminal the upper hand. The criminal and mentally unstable elements will always find ways to arm themselves.
I think the biggest part of the blame for these killings should land in the Navy’s lap because the cops informed the Navy of the shooters erratic behavior and there was no complete follow up executed. They dropped the ball big time.
