‘Absence of Passion’: Gates speaks out on Obama, contrasts with Bush:
“It’s one thing to tell the troops that you support them. It’s another to work at making them believe that you believe as president that their sacrifice is worth it, that the cause is just, that what they are doing is important for the country, and that they must succeed,” Gates told CBS News. “President Bush did that with the troops when I was secretary. I did not see President Obama do that. As I write in the book, it was this absence of passion, this absence of a conviction of the importance of success that disturbed me.”
In my opinion this is a double edged sword. To start with any war, especially a war that we elected to start for no justified reason is absolutely unacceptable. Be that as it may, after the fact, it is of the utmost importance for a president to demonstrate his support for the troops if and when they are at war, whether he started it or not.
Bush was wrong for starting the wars because of the devious influence of Cheney but from my prospective GWB is a man’s’ man and a was 110% for the troops and demonstrated it at every chance he could. There seems to be a little disparity in that statement, thus a double edged sword.
On the other hand, it is no secret that “ultra-liberal people” like Obama do not want to have anything to do with wars. That is a good thing. Be that as it may, if a president inherits a war from another president, it is his responsibility to show the troops his undivided support and allegiance which Obama has not done thus a double edged sword.
I can visualize Obama in his younger days being the type of person that would go around putting flowers in the rifle barrels of a solider.
One the other hand I can see GWB sitting in a slop shute (military bar) drinking a beer and arm wrestling with the troops.
It is very unfortunate that the USA got itself involved in so many wars and conflicts in the last 50 years that we had no business getting into. I truly believe that the majority of them were started for a very few in this country to make a bundle of money on the backs, heads, shoulders and bodies of young American kids who thought what they were doing was right; being patriotic.
It is very difficult to compare two men with entirely different ideologies but if I was involved in a war, even if I didn’t want to be there, I would want GWB in the same foxhole I was in.
I still say; if Gates was so displeased with his boss, why didn’t he walk out the door way back when instead of waiting to write a book when he was in “safe territory?”
As I have said 1000’s of times: IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!!!!
The Goomba Gazette: “Any fool that likes wars is nothing but a fool.”
