Win or lose it doesn’t matter

NCAA March Madness: Arizona fans clash with police after tournament loss:

Some fans in Arizona have demonstrated what they think is the true meaning of sports is.

It is not only in the USA where sports fans seem to correlate winning and losing with destruction and violence. If they win they set fire and turn over cars and if they lose they do the same think. It makes a lot of sense.

In Arizona the cops had to bring in their militia with cruisers, officers with batons, pepper spray, pepper canisters and pepper balls to try and suppress some of the disgruntled sports fans from the University of Arizona’s fans that got out of control by throwing beer bottles, cans and firecrackers, hitting police vehicles and endangering officers.

Wikipedia:

Violence in sports is nothing new and dates back centuries.

In 532 in Constantinople a chariot race between two teams eventually led to the death of 30,000 people.

Moving to modern time, on July 2000, 13 people were trampled to death in a riot at a 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifying match in Harare, Zimbabwe after South Africa took a 2–0 lead over Zimbabwe.

Things haven’t changed that much through the years. In modern times riots in some countries became so out of control  that teams are now playing to empty stadiums because of the degree of violence that takes place during the event.
