Tighten up those Afros ladies – it is nothing personal

Black female lawmakers challenge Army hairstyle ban

WASHINGTON – Black female lawmakers are urging Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to reconsider revised Army regulations that ban hairstyles frequently worn by minority women in the military.

I ask why?? You are in the military now, just in case someone forgot to tell you.

OK ladies, this is the military not some neighborhood gang. One of the major concepts of the military is uniformity, not do as you please.

Can you imagine the chaos there would be in the military if everyone did as they pleased.

Sixteen female members of the Congressional Black Caucus signed a letter Thursday to Hagel, stating that the changes are “discriminatory rules targeting soldiers who are women of color.” Since when is congress running the military? With this administration, who knows?

I can’t believe that all 16 of the CBC ladies think it is discrimination. Some of them have to be smarter than that.  I know, they don’t want to be singled out.

They say that references in the rule calling hairstyles worn mostly by black women “unkempt” and “matted” are offensive and show a lack of “cultural sensitivity.”

It is not a black or white thing to me, it is what the military requires of its personnel in order to have a sense of standardization. If they let everyone dress and groom themselves the way the wanted we may have a scene like this.

We don’t see the white men questioning the authorities about the wearing of beards. It is a policy and they follow the rules, with the exception of the Fort Hood Killer.

Wikepedia:

Excluding limited exemptions for religious accommodation, the United States Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps have policies that prohibit beards on the basis of hygiene, the necessity of a good seal for chemical weapon protective masks, and the official position that uniform personal appearance and grooming contribute to discipline and a sense of camaraderie.

Why is it that there are certain groups of people that continually have a chip on their shoulders or their afro and want to buck the establishment at every turn? And as expected, the CBC is calling a fowl and claiming it is “discriminatory rules targeting soldiers who are women of color.” I say

I wouldn’t expect much lees from them. I am surprised Sharpton and his sidekick Jesse didn’t chime in yet but it is early.

Tighten those afros up ladies and get in line if you want to serve with the worlds’ finest.

As you see, there are regulations for the white ladies as well. I haven’t heard anything about discriminating coming from them.

Why does it have to be about race? Hopefully Hagel is not going to capitulate.

UCMJ – Uniform code of Military Justice

802. ART. 2. PERSONS SUBJECT TO THIS CHAPTER

b) The voluntary enlistment of any person who has the capacity to understand the significance of enlisting in the armed forces shall be valid for purposes of jurisdiction under subsection (a) and change of status from civilian to member of the armed forces shall be effective upon the taking of the oath of enlistment.

When the swearing in oath is taken upon joining the military, I didn’t see any provisions in it for people of particular ethnicity to make their own rules.

Optimistically there are some people out there that can decipher this article.

Don’t back off Chuck.
