Illinois prison inmates will now be able to get a new and effective — but incredibly costly — drug for hepatitis C.

Department of Corrections in Illinois has approved the use of Sovaldi for the junkies in the slams that have used dirty needles when shooting up.

It is estimated that are as many as 3,750 prisoners in the state have contracted hepatitis C, by using tainted needles.

Unfortunately,  through no fault of their own there are people out there that have contracted the disease from getting tattoos, pedicures and manicures and other skin puncturing procedures.

It is estimated that this criminal “hand-out” will cost state taxpayers $61 million if only one third of prisoners with hepatitis C receive the drug. If all the junkie inmates get the drug it will cost in excess of $180 million dollars a year to keep these people alive. Just what a state needs that is going bankrupt.

At the closing of the year 2013 the State of Illinois had stack of overdue bills totaling  $7.6 billion.

Based on the mentality of the prison system it would not surprise me in the least if they are giving the drug to inmates that are death row.

It is a shame that the prisoners are infected with hepatitis C but no one put a gun to their head to shoot up. Quite possibly, they did put a gun to someone else’s head to get the drugs. I would consider their ignorance is the fact of why and how they contracted the disease. The consequences should goes with the territory.

Why not find some law-abiding citizens that need medical attention more than the criminals do. I guess that makes too much sense.
