Saudi Arabia to build world’s tallest tower, reaching 1 kilometer into the sky:
When the tallest enough, most expensive enough and enough is enough?
(CNN) — Dubai, long champion of all things biggest, longest and most expensive, will soon have some competition from neighboring Saudi Arabia.
The filthy rich, ego driven Saudis’ are going to ATTEMPT to build the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah starting next week, that if successful is going to be the tallest building in the world. And?
This monster will stand 3,280-feet (1 kilometers) estimated to cost $1.23 billion. If successfully completed it will have 200 floors and overlook the Red Sea. Building it will require about 5.7 million square feet of concrete and 80,000 tons of steel.
The footers to support this massive building will be 200 feet (60 meters) deep and need to be designed to withstand the effects of sea water that is in close proximity to the building.
There are multitude of challenges constructing a building of that size and height, one of which is pumping the concrete to the upper floors.
It has always been the rule of thumb in renting office spaces that the top floors garner higher rental rates. For my money I would prefer a first floor office. If and when that massive mausoleum ever topples, it is a long way down.
Wealthy people in that part of the world are known for their excessive spending habits and life styles. One such person, an Iranian businessman named Saeed Abdul Ghafour Khouri paid $14.3 million for the local license plate labeled “1”. The plate probably cost 10 – 15 times more than the vehicle it was hanging on.
