Shinseki ‘mad as hell’ about VA allegations, but won’t resign:
Washington (CNN) — Under withering criticism, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki told a Senate committee on Thursday he was “mad as hell” about allegations of deadly waiting times and cover-up at VA hospitals but he doesn’t plan to resign.
“Any allegation, any adverse incident like this makes me mad as hell,” Shinseki said at the first congressional hearing since reports of 40 deaths in Phoenix due to a lack of timely care for American veterans.
What we have here is another case of a government official passing the buck to the people under him and claiming he didn’t know anything about the “secret list” that was kept by his underlings to manipulate bonuses for themselves.
To that I say:
Making matter even worse, this head honcho was in the military himself and should know how critical it is that the vets get medical attention ASAP.
As I have said repeatedly, I have never seen a general take the rap for anything; it is always the PFC or Corporal.
How can anything of this magnitude take place under someone’s watch and go totally unnoticed by them? These people are either the biggest liars in the world or the most incompetent and in either case they should be held accountable.
Accountability comes in many forms: jail time – a fine – losing their job – barred from any other governmental positions for life but as we well know, these punitive actions rarely take place.
It appears that as long as these people are under the blanket protection of the higher offices, people such as Lois Lerner and the rest of the “inner circle” have carte blanche.
There needs to be some drastic changes in the laws that make people accountable, regardless of their status if they are caught committing an illegal offense. What is the purpose of having such laws if they only apply to those who are not connected?
As a result of the VA’s “Pearl Harbor” tactics at-least 40 service-people died and hundreds if not thousands suffered unnecessarily due to lack of medical attention.
Offenses such as this, done for the sake of bonuses for the VA upper crust, where our service-people are made to be 3rd class citizens after serving their country the way they did is unacceptable.
