The Sudan is a rough place to live

Sudan woman faces death for apostasy:

Women didn’t have it this bad in the stone ages.

In the Sudan a women who is pregnant and married a man in a Catholic ceremony was sentenced to death for changing her religion from Muslim to Catholic. The death sentence will not be carried out for two years after she had given birth. They are rugged!

Amnesty International has condemned the sentence, handed down by a judge in Khartoum, as “appalling and abhorrent”.

Sudan has a majority Muslim population, which is governed by Islamic law.

A statement from the hanging judge to the lady; “We gave you three days to recant but you insist on not returning to Islam. I sentence you to be hanged to death.”

Western embassies and rights groups had urged Sudan to respect the right of the pregnant woman to choose her religion but the pleas seem to be falling on deaf ears.

To add insult to injury and injury to more injury, the judge in the case also sentenced the woman to 100 lashes after convicting her of adultery  and because she married a Christian man which is not valid under Islamic law.

This 100 lashes will be carried out when she has recovered from giving birth. Talk about no time for convalescing.

Needless to say I am not an expert on Islam Law or any other but if there is such a law that exists stating a women can be hanged for marrying someone of a different faith, I would think they need to rewrite the rule book.  These “scholarly defenders” of the faith seem to be stuck in a time warp.
