Kentucky gives coach John Calipari a new 7-year, $52.5 million contract through 2021:
To all of you very benevolent parents and alumni out there; make sure the next time you get a request from a college for donations that you add in a few extra bucks on the check. As you can see by how they spend it, they are really hurting. I wonder what the college president makes?
52.5 million for coaching a basketball team. Not too shabby, huh?
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky gave coach John Calipari a new seven-year, $52.5 million contract that will pay a base package of $6.5 million next season and $8 million over each of the final three seasons.
In the coach’s press conference he stated: “In thousand dollar bills, 4 million dollars stakes about this high”
The colleges are as bad as hospitals, always crying poor mouth when it comes to money but they sure know how to squander it.
A person can spend two weeks flat on their back, getting all shot up, eating sub-standard food, dirty floors, nasty nurses with a bad attitudes; the bill will come out to about 300 grand and two days after the patient gets home they get a phone call from the hospital looking for a donation. The best part; if the person dies while they are in there, even if it is negligence on the hospitals part, they still send their next of kin the bill. We won’t even bring up the VA hospitals.
Just how good can Calipari be? The president of the USA who has the weight of the world on his shoulders will make $3,150,000.00 over a 7 year period, which is about 16.67 times less than the coach.
All the coach has to do is win some basketball games to ensure his position but the president has to make sure the USA doesn’t fall apart (whether he is succeeding or not is a different story).
Maybe Obama should have been a basketball coach; he may have done a better job in that position and would have made a lot more money. After all, the old saying is “do what you do best!”
