Fishing rods are the answer not welfare Mr. O

Obama says more “US can do to help Native Americans”

CANNON BALL, N.D.

President Obama on Friday became only the third U.S. sitting president in eight decades to set foot in Indian Country, encountering both the wonder of Native American culture and the struggle of tribal life on a breeze-whipped afternoon in the prairie. Amid snapping flags and colorful, befeathered dancers, Obama declared that there was more the U.S. could do to help Native Americans.

Two old sayings immediately come to mind:

“God helps those who help themselves”.

“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; show him how to catch fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”

If there ever were two cliches that are apropos, these two apply to some Native Americans’ as well as other groups in our country that have become dependent on the government to support them.

Way back when; in order to try and compensate the Native Americans’ for stealing their land  the United States government initiated payments/reparation to Native Americans’, that through evolution got completely out of hand and has literally destroyed much of the once powerful Indian Nations.

As an example, the unemployment rate among them is higher than 25% and over 12% of the Native Americans die from alcohol related illnesses. Alcoholism has become so rampant on the reservation that booze is prohibited from being on the land.

The answer to the plight of the Native Americans is not to make zombies out of them by enabling them maintain such a miserable parasitic existence but to educate them, create jobs where they have to be responsible.  Give them the “fishing rod of live” to assist them to become self-sufficient.

Our government has taking the wrong approach to resolving the crisis not only in the Native American communities but throughout the welfare system. The only way for these groups become responsible and self-sufficient and  crawl out of the rut they are in is through education and hard work. Hand-outs are not the answer; “support” maybe but not hand-outs.

The people in this country that have been on welfare the majority of their lives don’t know anything else and are totally dependent on someone supporting them. Many of whom, if you offered them a job they would not want it.

I have seen statements from some of these free-loaders that claim they can make more on through the welfare system than if they worked for a living. What a monsters the government has created. Who’s fault is it?????

Can the slate ever be wiped clean for the injustices to the Native Americans or the black race where people should forget about it? The answer to that is NO but the flip side is; “that was then and this is now”. Living in the past is very counter-productive and can’t ever be turned around.

I would maintain that these injustices committed against anyone 200 years ago are in the history books. Should they be forgotten, NO again. The only real solution is to move forward and teach people how to be responsible for themselves. There is never a problem with “assisting someone” but to enable them is absolutely wrong.

“God helps those who help themselves”.

“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; show him how to catch fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”

Forbes Magazine:

Gaming on Native American lands earned $26.5 billion in 2011. 236 Native American tribes operate 422 facilities across 28 states. Yet Native American tribes and their wholly owned tribal corporations are not subject to federal income taxes on their earnings.

Can we assume that the time in the penalty box for the USA has expired? Isn’t it feasible for these laws to be changed and casino owners and the other people sheltered by these tax dodging laws pay their fair share of taxes?

Mr. O, instead of enabling the Native Americans or any other race or nationality to becoming government “created invalids” by shelling out free money to them, I think it is time to educate them and teach them to be self-sufficient. It is a proven fact that people who work for a living are more responsible and make better citizens than the free-loaders.

The initial intent of welfare system was to HELP the destitute in this country, not to create generations of physically and mentally cripples that do not want to work.

Hard work is what made America strong way back when.

“God helps those who help themselves”.

“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; show him how to catch fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”

Happy Father Day to all the good fathers that are devoted family-men and support their family’s as a good father should.

To all of the other that are free-loading bums: go get a job, set an example and start teaching your kids what a responsible productive citizen should be. God forbid they grow up like you!!!
