US tourists in Italy call cops after being charged $50 for ice cream:
It is no secret that some Italian merchants can be a very deceptive and crafty at times, just like any other tourists trap around the world. These establishments are not too concerned about return customers so they will gouge the shit out of you the first time around. If you do happen to go back for seconds that shows what kind of idiot you are.
Most tourists don’t know that they should never pay the asking price for any item regardless of what it is or ask what the item costs before the purchase. It is a ritual in foreign countries to barter with the merchants. They think Americans are stupid for not haggling. Well!!!!!!
Living up to their devious reputation and in true Italian style, the proprietor of a cafe baptized three American tourists in the Trevi Fountain right across the street from his shop.
The three American tourists James and Marian Luciani and a friend were shocked when they had to pay for their chilling refreshment at the Rome’s Bar Il Caffe.
They should have known that when shopping in foreign countries you need to bring a jar of Vaseline to ease the pain.
In many cases there actually are two different prices at many of these stores. There is the locals’ price and then the tourists’ price.
How can they tell the difference who is who? Most of these people became hustlers the day they came out of the womb.
The grand total for 3 ice creams cones and a bottle of water for the naive Americans was the equivalent of $50.00 and that did not include nuts or chocolate syrup. The three tourists were so taken back by the extravagant bill that they called the polizia.
Little did they know that the guy who owned the ice-cream parlor was the cugino of one of the cops.
