Now – not tomorrow

Phoenix Police Shoot Unarmed Black Man, Igniting Outcry:

Recently there has been an epidemic of shootings and killings of black people all over this country.

It is really unfortunate that these deadly conditions exist.  Some of the incidents have been justifiable and other have not.

In defense of the cops, the old saying goes; you would have had to have been in their shoes at the time.

I would not want to be a cop for love or money based on what they have to encounter on a daily basis. The anxiety and stress levels they go through in the stand-offs or confrontations with criminals and the general public has to be unimaginable.

The cops have to evaluate and react in high tension situations on an instant notice. Most of the time they make the correct decision and other times they don’t.

The more seasoned a cop is, the more experience he has, the better they are able to handle these clashes. The less seasoned the cops are the more inclined they will be to act hastily and react incorrectly and sometime causing the death of an innocent person.

Are some of these situations intentional? That is a good question.

I am sure that there is a very small percentage of people that become cops for the wrong reasons. Some like the glamour of the uniform and others love the power they get when they wear a badge and have a gun. Fortunately for us the later is about 1/10th of 1%.

What is the answer to this very troubling dilemma were are in? It is very complex but to make it simple don’t go where you don’t belong and obey the law.

I watched a segment on Real Sports last night where the cops in Watts, California have put together a group of cops only that work with the kids and their parents through a football program they have developed. Strictly cops are the participants and coaches.

The residence of Watts, at one time had little to not trust or respect of law-enforcement whatsoever but through the program they have learned to appreciate and respect the cops and feel more at ease dealing with them.

As a consequence, the crime rate in that area has gone down dramatically. The one time anti-cop residence are now co-operating more with the authorities and assisting them in solving crimes that at one time was NOT even a consideration.

This program is federally funded and is a huge success. If it can be done in Watts, why can’t it be done all over the country???

Try to catch this program with Bryant Gumbel on HBO Sports series.

Our government pisses away so much money in the wrong directions that if they initiated and funded similar programs around the country the results would be phenomenal.

We have to start somewhere ladies and gents and in my humble opinion, this is a great direction to point our kids in.  The answer is not for the government always hiring high paid Czars and squandering millions of dollars on studies. Most times the simplest solutions to a problem is the best.

Take the politics out of the equations and the clock will run a lot smother.

Mr. O, if you are reading the Goomba Gazette, I will volunteer to put this national package together and do it a lot cheaper than the DC Dudes can.  If you are not reading the Goomba Gazette, maybe you should be.

There has to be a positive move in the right direction; it is of the utmost urgency for all American citizens.
