When Chuck Hagel was appointed to Sec. of Defense by Obama I had my reservations about that unlikely hook-up.
Hagel is his own man and is a very competent person in his field. That style of personality is no conducive to surviving in the Obama administration.
It is no military secret that Mr. O is a control freak. Either you do things his way or it is the highway. Some of his own people that he takes advice from many time backfires on him. Look at the track record.
Chuck Hagel saw that handwriting on the wall that he was going to get the axe so he decided to make his move before Grim Reaper came calling.
To start with Hagel is a republican, he is a Christian, served in the Army, decorated for his actions in Vietnam and has a good set of balls.
Based on all of the above, does any person with a background like that remotely think that they can survive under an administration that micromanages?
It is always amazing to me that some people who are CEOs’ or owners of corporations hire people of a particular talent or skill to oversee or manage one of their departments. The problem is; the big wig’s egos are so big that they do not want to take the advice of the experts they hired. Why did they even hire them?
Many sports teams have fallen victims of this type of situation where the owners that don’t know shit about the game, micromanaged their head coach that is a professional. End result; the team goes belly up, the owner blames the coach and he gets his walking papers.
I have always maintained; leave the sawing to the carpenter.
There are people in this world that have such giant egos’ that regardless of what advice they are given they will do it their way. That has been a major problem with all administrations but even more pronounced with Obama.
The secret to any successful business or any other entity is for the owner/boss to surround themselves with the best qualified people in the business, pay them well, don’t break their balls and listen to their advice. That is why they are called experts in the field.
Good luck Chuck. You gave it a good try!!
