To all of you permissive, enabling, filthy rich parents out there; you better not cut off junior’s allowance or piss them off; it may be your last Custer’s last Stand.
Thomas Gilbert, the son of a very wealthy hedge fund manager; (that is before Jr blew his brains out) bumped off his old man because they had a dispute over the brat’s allowance. I have to guess that 20 grand a month probably wasn’t enough for Tommy Boy.
Offhand I would say that this family falls very easily into the affluenza category.
I believe that per capita there are more problems with brats that come from affluent families then the kids that come from lower income families. In Italian we call it troppo or too much.
In this modern day society with all of the over-indulging of the little ones; parents are doing their kids more harm than good by lavishing them with everything they demand or ask for. Many of the kids don’t have any value for anything and do not appreciate what they have.
Give a little kid one or two toys and they will cherish them; load them up with mountains of junk and they will play with the boxes the toys came in.
This PC-ness that has dominated society is very counter-productive but the enabling parents can not see the forest on account of the trees.
No one can convince me that the old style of raising kids was a lot more effective than it is today. We may have had a few more bumps and bruises to show for it but we respected our parents, authorities and appreciated the little we had.
You may remember the poster boy for affluenza Ethan Couch; the spoiled brat that was responsible for the deaths of 4 of his friends and was given 10 probation by some knuckled headed judge that may have needed a new swimming pool or a Rolls.
Do people like the Couch family really believe that they are doing their brat any good? We have not heard the last of this little monster. They should ask Mrs. Gilbert; based on the circumstances if she would raise her killer brat differently.
Just a little hint about parenting. Be a parent first and then their buddy. Your kids may not like you now but they will love you later.
