If anyone in this country wants to get an inside look on how the rest of the world is living and they subscribe to HBO; they have to go to HBO on demand and watch the episodes on the series VICE . The lawlessness, corruption and living conditions are beyond almost description.
The episodes are absolutely frightening, enlightening, deplorable, unimaginable, pathetic and any other adjective in the dictionary that describes total chaos. Graft, corruption, greed, outright unadulterated defiance of the law by the citizens and moreover by the authorities in the different countries.
All of the episodes are too lengthy to explain in detail but just a couple of examples.
In the Philippines, anyone running for public office might as well sign their own death certificate. It seems inconceivable that 10’s of 1,000’s of people are killed either running for public office or for supporting any candidate.
Talk about gun control; they wrote the book on how not to control weapons.. The lawlessness is in the country is indescribable.
One of the other episodes shows how the American tobacco companies, who were shot down in this country with their advertising and so forth are making a fortune in this foreign countries sell their cancer sticks. It is always about the money.
In Indonesia where there are no bans on advertising or age limits on the buyers, kids as young as 4 years old go to the store on a daily basis and buy cigarettes. 67% of the men and boys in that country smoke and it is getting worse every day. If the girls want to be part of the group (peer pressure) they are forced to join in and their percentage rate of smokers is going consistently going up .
I watch 5 episodes last night. By the time I came to the last current one, I felt like I just ran a marathon; exhausted. I was almost speechless to see just how deplorable other governments and countries operate. Anyone would be at a loss for words attempting to describe the conditions in those countries.
If anyone can say after watching these episodes that they rather live somewhere else other than the USA, they have rocks in their head.
This program should serve as an eye opener to anyone and everyone that watches it. Hopefully the dissidents that are taking full advantage of all of the freedoms in this country and still bitching will appreciate the USA a little more than they do.
The freedoms and living conditions we have in USA are without equal compared to what the program VICE is airing. Are there conditions and areas of our society that need to be addressed? Absolutely but in comparison to what I watched on VICE; we live in paradise.
My hat is off to the men and women at VICE for having the backbone and dedication to put themselves in harm’s way in order to bring this information to the viewing public.
I say God bless America; love it or leave it.
