Germanwings co-pilot reportedly was ‘not suitable for flying’ in early training:
INVESTIGATORS HAVE removed items from two properties tied to Germanwings Flight 9525 co-pilot Andreas Lubitz, above right, while a report in a German newspaper says the 27-year-old was initially marked ‘not suitable for flying’ during his training course in Arizona six years ago, and received psychiatric treatment for 18 months.
For this suicidal pilot to have a flight evaluation such as being unfit to fly and have that report go unchecked by officials is absolute negligence on someone’s part. On top of it all, they say Lubitz had mental issues as well. Who is watching the store?
There is some conversation out there that the airlines in general have become very lax in weeding out unfit pilot candidates because they have cut the pilots pay so drastically that they essentially have to take what they can can get.
Just in ancillary fees in 2013 the airlines collected $6.16 billion: $3.35 billion in baggage fees and $2.81 billion in the cancellation fees according to U.S. Department of Transportation. That’s is an increase from $6.04 billion collected in 2012. As demonstrated once again; IT IS ALL ABOUT MONEY.
Based on those numbers; is it feasible for the airlines to pay their pilots a respectable wage and filter through the dead-beats that may falling through the cracks?
Being a pilot used to be a very prestigious and a well paying job. In recent years because of the airlines greed, they have cut the pay of some of the pilots to barely above minimum wage. I don’t know about anyone else but I want the most qualified and well paid person at the stick when the wheels go up.
How many people out there in various kinds of responsible positions have fallen through the cracks? The number has to be scary. Unfortunately, we don’t hear about it until after the fact.
This can segway into all the cops out there that have hair trigger personalities – how many doctors have the slice and dice mentality – how many people involved with young kid that are closet perverts; the demented list is endless. There has to be better hiring control put into these positions.
Is there a way to weed out these disturbed people and keep them away from these very responsible positions? The answer is yes but not 100%. If the people that are responsible for hiring did a more thorough job on background checks, they could probably eliminate the majority of them. That is providing the person doing the interview is not nuttier than the applicant.
The old say goes; in some cases the psychiatrist is crazier than their patients is an understatement.
It may be a hopeless situation or a fact of life that has evolved into part of our society that we have to accept the possibilities; when we or our loved ones walk out the door in the morning , no matter if we are going to the store, to work, to school, to get milk or flying, we may never come back. It happens to be a reality of life on 2015.
This is a brutal and violent world we live in today. The fact of the matter is; the more aware a person is of some of these harmful possibilities the safer they can be. The mentality of; it will never happen to me doesn’t exist.
We have become anesthetized to tragedies and horror to the point that they have become part of our everyday lives and almost acceptable. What is really shocking us anymore; not much that I can think of.
We see people getting their heads sawed off – wars that are totally out of control – priests molesting 100’s of kids – school shootings – mass murderers – people wiping out their entire families – unimaginable terrorists attacks where young kids are blowing themselves up because some psycho tells them they are going to virgin heaven – airplanes flying into buildings or mountains with 100’s of people aboard by pilots committing Harakiri – gang violence and drug use totally out of control; the list is never ending. It appears that society has accepted these calamities as part of our everyday life.
There are measures that can be taken to eliminate many of these situations but too many people believe that taking the PC-route is the way to go. It absolutely doesn’t work. Drastic time call for drastic measures.
I don’t really know if there was ever a time in the history of mankind that has been so bleak!
Who in the hierarchy of our leadership is sticking their neck out to make certain changes they need to to turn things around??? In order to be a good leader, a person does the RIGHT thing regardless. It should not be a popularity contest as so many of them make it.
