Lincoln Chafee: Go bold, go metric
(CNN) Lincoln Chafee launched his Democratic presidential bid Wednesday on a platform of what he called “bold” ideas, but few are as bold as his proposal to switch to the metric system.
Mr. Chafee who running against Bill’s wife came up with one of the most logical ideas yet to try and put the USA in step with the rest of the world.
I think it a brilliant suggestion and long overdue that the Canadian’s southern cousins convert to the metric system.
The USA and the UK are the only major super powers that do not use the metric system for its weights and measures system of calculating.
The USA uses inches – feet – yards and liquid measures that cannot be computed when doing a mathematical calculation; they need to be converted into the metric system.
These charts show what the conversions are that need to be converted in order to utilize our present system mathematically.
The problem I see; attempting to get the USA in step with the rest of the world, it will be too difficult for the lazy kids in this country to make the modification. The teachers have enough to deal with keeping order in the class rooms let alone force feeding the kids with something they have no interest in.
The solution to this is; start teaching the kids in preschool to use the metric system and possibly in 30 years our school systems will have made the transition.
I know that with all of the PC-ness craziness that exists in our society, the schools do not want to rock the boat and demand that our kids advance themselves. The kids may get together a class action law suit and sue the schools for unnecessary and undue harassment.
