Obama returns to efforts to ban ‘assault’ weapons
In my opinion; the only way any citizen of the USA would need an automatic weapon is if our government doesn’t do it’s job and protect all of the citizens against the terrorists. We certainly don’t need an AK-47 for deer hunting.

I would not want to be the only one that gave up my weapon, my means of protection if we had a parade of terrorists marching down our city streets.
This seems to be a catch 22 situation for all parties concerned. We are damned or doomed if we do and we are damned and doomed if we don’t. Where do we draw the line.
We positively can not rest assured that are government is going to protect 100%. Based on that assumption, I would conclude all responsible citizens should be able to buy and own military assault weapons.
Just like the survivalist that is building a shelter JUST IN CASE the bomb is dropped; the responsible citizens should be allowed to arm themselves JUST IN CASE.
As I have allude in past posts. If the authorities did not have their hands tied by some very liberal ideologies and were able to execute their jobs in a more efficient manner, that would be a good start to crime prevention.
If there were stronger laws on the books as to who could purchase firearms and the laws were rigidly enforced; that would help in the prevention of some crimes. Anyone caught breaking the law should get at least 20 years in the slams. This thing is out of control.
There IS such an animal where things/issuses/scenerios have gone well past the point of no return and this gun control may just be one of them.
If we were a peace loving society and there was no need for automatic weapons for personal protection, I would sat that we should definitely ban all of them except for military or police use. Being that many of our citizens have turned into crazed killers and the terrorists are knocking on the front door; unfortunately, I say keep the laws the way they are and try to deal with the crazies as best we can.
I would love to see the day come where these weapons were not a possible necessity for the protection of our citizens. We will NEVER see those days again.

Maybe, if there was a return of the Chain Gangs. Armed during a violent crime, could get, seven years, hard labor. Everyone would see how fast violent gun crimes drop off the scale.
Until that time, repeat after me:
This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me my rifle is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than the enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. My rifle and I know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, or the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit. My rifle is human, even as I am human, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. Before God I swear this creed. My rifle and I are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life. So be it, until victory is America’s and there is no enemy.
(Know what I mean?)
