Bill would eventually make Hawaii first state to ban cigarette sales
Hilo, Hawaii — A Big Island lawmaker has proposed incrementally increasing the minimum age to buy cigarettes until there was, for all practical purposes, a ban on their sale in Hawaii.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports Democratic state Rep. Richard Creagan has proposed legislation that aims to make the state the first to prohibit the sale of cigarettes.
Under his bill, the minimum smoking age would increase to 30 in 2020, 40 in 2021, 50 in 2022, 60 in 2023, and 100 in 2024.
The measure wouldn’t apply to e-cigarettes, cigars or chewing tobacco.
Ever hear of

I don’t know if the bill will ever pass, BUTT to me it sounds redicilous. If The Political Pineapple Peoples motivation is to save lives, shut the door right now, cold turkey. Why wait until 2024??
To me, this may be another case of toooo much government control. If some dummies want to smoke and kill themselves, they know the potential hazards, let them smoke.

The only upside I see to this plan, if it ever gets off the ground, is not having the cancer sticks available to young kids. That would be the plus. BUTT as we all know, if anyone wants to get something illegal, it will cost them a lot more, BUTT they will get it somehow.
I understand that there are people (I call them do-gooders) in this world that want to change the way mankind operates, always looking to save souls/lives. There are a lot of folks out there that don’t want their soul saved. They should leave the laws the way they are, OR immediately shut the door on cancer stick sales. Stretching it out over 5 years makes no sense to me.

This was another great example how the nazi’s on the left want to control all aspects of our lives. I say if a person is dumb enough to smoke, let them. For Bill, just a future black market to deal with. Perhaps he hasn’t read the Rand Corp’/s analysis that outlawing tobacco would keep people living longer and we be bad for social insecurity. Yep smoking causes cancer more than just lung, heart attack deaths, strokes. Get the point. Great post Goomba, J.C. taking it to my site and will link back.
Could find the link, likely to old. Here’s one from the CDC in also includes death from second hand some. https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/fact_sheets/health_effects/tobacco_related_mortality/index.htm
If Hawaii can pull it off great! But if they don’t address the other half — vaping —then it’s a halfa$$ed attempt. Sounds good but just shifts the market!
It is all SMOKE
