In the US of A, any amount stolen over 500.00$ is a felony. SOOO, if the same holds true in Brazil, might as well gold for the pot of gold.

Authorities in Brazil are looking for several armed robbers who took two hostages and stole a trove of gold and other precious metals worth about $40 million from an airport cargo terminal Thursday. The suspects posed as police officers at Sao Paulo international airport and drove away with the valuables, which was bound for New York and Zurich, Reuters reported. 

I have to assume that dumping 40 million dollar$ worth of gold is not easy task. We would have to surmise that the thieves had a game plan for a buyer before they pulled off the giant heist. At least they should have.

With an average income for the average Jose in Brazil being 678.90$ a month, the banditos can live like kings for many yeas to come.
