I think in this case, the answer is easy.
In the scheme of things, MMA is relatively new on the scene. The long range affects of the injuries to the combatants will not be realized for many years. There is no doubt in my mind that they will be abundant and severe.
Do the owners of the MMA have insurance to protect their fighters way down the road to deal with injuries?? I don’t know but doubt it.
In the past, take a look at how the NFL has thrown their dedicated players to the dogs with providing them health care. There have been some real horror stories. It is only in recent years they have taken some responsibility for their players health care, after the fact.

Take my words for it; shots like round house kicks to the head the martial artists take, are as severe and possibly more injurious than many hits football players take and they have helmets on.
The results of these injuries do not surface for many after the athletes hang up their jock straps. Then they try to chase their X-employer to cover them, and many times come, only come away with air.
Especially in the game of boxing; there have been many circumstances the trainers of the fighter, look at them as a piece of meat that is paying their bills and have little regard for their safety.
From what I have seen with the MMA, they do take a few more precautions.
I am not sure that the MMA fighters are not running into the same brick wall when it comes to being insured for injuries they received in Octagon.
By the looks of the video, Alistair Overeem will not be mugging up with his squeeze for a long time.
