At least 34 people rescued after they became stranded on a floating chunk of ice in Green Bay

I don’t know if it’s only me; but every time I see people ice fishing; especially when the weather is not conducive, I say to myself, they are half nuts.

Statistics indicate that 15 Americans die from “icicle-related accidents” each year, and in Russia, about 100 such deaths are reported annually. Some of these deaths can be pretty gruesome. In addition, countless people are also injured by either icicles or blocks of ice that fall from even a few stories high.

If the weather has been subzero for a week or two and the ice is thick enough, there really is not a problem getting out there drilling a hole and dropping a baited hook.  It is the people that wait until the temperature gets in the middle 30s and low 40s who go on the ice and take a chance that I think are foolish.
