On January 25 1971 Manson was found guilty and sentenced to death with the rest of his imbecile followers. In February 1972 their death sentences were reduced to life imprisonment instead of facing the death squad; thanks to the bleeding hearts in that state that is supposed to fall of the continent soon.
1969 to 2012; Chuck has been locked up in prison for 43 years at the estimated cost of $ 90,000.00 per year = in rounded numbers $ 3,870,000.00 to house this piece of trash. What the hell can cost so much to house one prisoner? A good Holiday Inn cost about $ 80.00 per night x 365 = $ 29,200.00 a year; that leaves another $ 60,800.00 for living expenses. In Michigan it cost $ 5.50 per day to feed a prisoner. I bet Sheriff Arpaio can do it even cheaper. Where is all of this money going??
As of January 2012 there are 3,189 inmates on death row x $ 90,000.00;
which adds up to and astounding number of $ 287,000,000.00 a year to shelter these people that have had little regard for society and have proven it by their crimes. Isn’t there a better way to spend tax payer’s money than putting these people up in the Ritz for 20 years?
One thing most people don’t know about the convicts in prison; they like being there. Whenever they get “sent up” it is like old home week and throwing Bugs Bunny in the briar patch “where he belongs”. The term is called institutionalized.
They are right at home with their “homies” and consider it a badge of honor when they are back in the slams. It looks good on their resume the next time they are looking for work.
These boys never had is so good on the streets. In the “cross bar hotel” they have 3 meals a day, a clean/dry bed to sleep in, all the weights these Dumbo’s want to press and a library where they can all become “jail house lawyers” so they can harass the legal system.
I am definitely in favor of the death penalty; especially with the advent of DNA when it has been conclusively proved that the person is guilty.
The only down side of the death penalty has been there have been a lot of innocent people who sat in “Old Sparky” that did not commit the crime.
There is a lot of money made by private groups that own penitentiaries. In 2010; 20% of the prisons in Arizona were privately owned. More and more states are going that route because they say it is cheaper.
Getting back to “Helter Skelter”; this guy is 77 years old and can potentially live another 15 -18 years. After all he has no stress in his life other than going up for parole every few years. At $ 90,000.00 a year for 15 years it is going to cost the tax payers another $ 1,350,000.00 to house this sadistic killer. Why not put him in front of a firing squad and end his miserable life with a 25 cent bullet. I know California could use the money.
