Chaos in DC:
I listened to the majority of Obama’s speech yesterday and a good deal of what he said is accurate; all of the disastrous ramification if a budget deal is not reached by 10-17-13. In the long run it would be catastrophic for the USA in a multitude of ways.
What I didn’t hear the president say was the responsibility that he and the Democratic Party have is this entire scenario.
Obama was putting the entire blame on the republicans and virtually none on the democrats. I still say that both sides should be held equally accountable for the outcome of their persistent inability to come to a mutual agreement.
Obama does one hell of a job when reading notes or using a tel-prompter but in the Q&A periods he seems to faultier slightly.
It is a dangerous game that the politicians play by delaying their decisions until the last minute on everything they do. They had months and years to work on these issues before they came due but like “business as usual” they want to play the chess game or even the game of chicken with one another; who is going to give in first. It is ludicrous.
Egos have no business in politics but it appears that their egos are a major stumbling block for them. Neither side wants to capitulate or bend.
The whole thing in a nut shell is; the Obama-care deal that has more holes in it than a colander. Obama knows his monstrosity is the tipping point on the negotiations, he said he is willing to talk but that doesn’t necessarily mean he will agree.
That seems like a trap to the republicans; “sign the deal first and then we will talk.”
The only way this entire mess is going to have a “happy ending” is for both side to leave their egos on the door step, sit down and, like Monty Hall used to say “Let’s make a deal”. That is what politics is all about anyway, they all should be experts by now.
I don’t know how many viewers noticed that Obama referred to a card he had in his pocket as to what reporters to call on. These people are pre-selected and their questions are scrutinized even before they are asked. It is no accident there was little to no mention by the reporters on Obama-care one of the key factors in this debate. How is that fair and transparent reporting if the questions are per-arranged and pre-approved?
If in fact his “door is open” as Obama claims and is sincere that he is willing to sit down with the other side and republicans do not take advantage of this, shame on them.
If this is all a smoke screen by Obama to put the entire blame on the republicans, shame on him. This is not the time to play political games.
The decisions or lack of that does or do not take place in the next week are the most critical of any time in the USA’s history. Defaulting will be the put the icing on the economic cake for the one time “Most powerful nation on earth”.
I have a slightly optimistic feeling that there will be some kind of agreement at the 11th hour will be reached ONLY because neither one of the men spearheading this fiasco want their name to go down in history as the “One that brought America to its knees”!
Let us hope for the sake of all citizens of the USA these men come to their senses.
