It appears that some state officials in Oklahoma are trying to teach their old nasty road hogs new tricks when it comes to traffic etiquette and courtesy when merging to keep the traffic flow going. I think it is a good idea; IF all drivers were not a suicide mission to go nowhere in a hurry and cut the other guy off.
Courtesy on the road is almost non-existent these days. Even the over-the-road truckers used to be very respectful of the other drivers. No moe.
Merging is not the only road courtesy that most drivers forgot or deliberately abuse since they took their driving tests.
One other lack of road courtesy is not YIELDING to the right-away. This race to jockey for positions usually happens when a driver is getting onto a freeway from the entrance ramp. The driver that is getting on the freeway is SUPPOSED to yield to the other cars that are already on the roadway. I hardly ever see that happen. What the scenario turns out to be is a game of chicken or who has the biggest balls not to capitulate. It doesn’t always end pretty.

One of the places I experienced the disrespect for other drivers the most was trying to get onto a bridge going into New York City where 6 lanes merged into two. It is no wonder that there are not 20 shootings a day there. The people are absolute savages behind the wheel.
Another of the poorest driving habits many drivers have is hogging the left lane on a two lane highway, refusing to move over, and driving under the speed limit. These fools need to have someone flatten their tires so they can’t drive.
These are the first rules of the road that are taught in drivers education. I know for a fact that many of the left lane hoggers do it deliberately to piss off the other drivers.
Just-in-case some road-hog is reading this; the rules are; pass in the left lane then move over to the right or, slower traffic stays in the right lane.
As the old saying goes; we can not teach old road hogs new tricks.
