At least there are a couple of lawmakers that see a problem with the way some federal employees are spending money.
I don’t think that anyone in the USA would mind if these D.C. knuckle heads blew a little bit of extra money if the USA’s books were in the black but for a federal agency to squander $ 820,000.00 on a meeting in Vegas is outrageous.
These high rollers paid some guy (probably a cousin of one of them) with our tax dollars $ 12,000.00 to find a venue for the meeting that was held in the same place they have used repeatedly.
Some of the trinkets that were purchased as “give aways” including more than $6,000 on commemorative coins, $8,000 on a “yearbook” and $3,200 for an in-house mind reader.
The 300-person event was held at the M Resort Spa and Casino in Henderson, Nev., included a $95-per-person dinner and reception that is a violations of federal laws and policies.
What kind of dinner costs $95.00 per person in Vegas when they have buffets with everything imaginable on the menu for under $ 30.00? They probably didn’t want to inconvenience themselves by have them walking back and forth from their table for seconds.
$ 100,000.00 was spent on travel expenses and we can bet that the brass flew first cabin and
$ 30,000.00 for catering when the hungry bunch got to Vegas.
The list goes on – $ 75,000.00 for a training exercise to assemble 24 bicycles that were later donated to the Boy Scouts. How to assemble bicycles??? – $31,000 on a “networking reception” that featured $19-per-person “American artisan cheese display” and $7,000 in sushi – $3,200 session with a mind reader (I hope she told them they all have a spending problem), $5,600 for in-room parties ( wonder if that included any strippers), $3,700 for T-shirts and almost $2,800 on water bottles. They must have bought the good stuff, Perrier water that cost $10.00 a bottle. We wouldn’t want the deprived group to have to drink anything that was made in the USA.
In total the federal committee spent was $ 820,000.00 that the USA does not have. As I have said many times; there is no accountability when it comes to our government and their less than desirable habits.
We can probably make a Las Vegas bet that no one will swing for this giant infraction, just like the rest of the governments blunders that get swept under the rug.
Why do all of these meeting have to be held in Vegas in the first place? The people that plan these events must have the Michele syndrome; normal/local is not good enough.
Somewhere in all the rules and regulations in the federal guidelines but are never used, there must be articles that are supposed to be followed to prevent these out of control situations from happening.
Why should the tax payers expect anything different if it’s a government function?
We don’t want to deny our hard working representatives a little fun in the sun and eating Delmonico steaks when there are a lot of US citizens eating liver or less every night.
