Ad links Romney to death of steelworker’s wife, campaign decries ‘contemptible effort’:
In one of the toughest attacks of the 2012 campaign, a pro-Obama super PAC released a battleground ad Tuesday that attempts to link Mitt Romney to the death of a former Kansas City steelworker’s wife.
You want to talk about “mud slinging, dirty pool, low blows, backstabbing at its max, backyard dealing, lowlife accusations and just plain dirty politics”; this one takes the cake. Is this what the election has come down to; accusations of the other side responsible for killing someone?
This dastardly organization called The Priorities USA ad focuses on the story of Joe Soptic, a former worker at GST Steel. Joe was among those affected when the firm declared bankruptcy in 2001, following the takeover by Romney’s Bain Capital firm and other companies.
“A short time after that, my wife became ill. I don’t know how long she was sick. And I think maybe she didn’t say anything because she knew we couldn’t afford the insurance,” he said.
Soptic said that one day he took her to the hospital, where doctors found she had Stage 4 cancer.
“There was nothing they could do for her. And she passed away in 22 days,” he said. “I do not think Mitt Romney realizes what he’s done to anyone, and furthermore I do not think Mitt Romney is concerned.”
To make an accusation like this is about as low as a person can go. I really don’t know if the Obama team is behind this one but if I was a betting man I would have to say yes.
It sounds to me like someone is getting desperate to resort to these tactics.
If the prez isn’t behind this unscrupulous accusation he should send a memo to all his supporters and let it be known that publicity like this is not doing him any good.
Who would vote for a person that would stoop this low for the sake of votes?
If it was coming from the other side I would still have the same opinion.
